Hôpital Bon Samaritain (HBS), a
full service hospital with outreach programs, is situated
in the river valley of Limbé,
Haiti. Haiti occupies the western half of the tropical island
of Hispaniola, found 600 miles southeast of Florida in the
Caribbean. Surrounded by mountains in all directions, Limbé,
a main crossroad and market town, is located about 80 feet
above sea level, some 12 miles inland off the North coast
of Haiti. About 35,000 people populate the town, with another
500,000 in the surrounding area. The Limbé River
is one of the principal rivers flowing north into the
Atlantic Ocean. Cap Haitian, Haiti's second largest city,
is 18 miles northeast and the capital, Port-au-Prince,
is 140 miles south.
